Department of Computer Science

GU TECH aims at being an innovation hub to nourish global technology leaders. We believe that while a strong IT service industry is important for the national economy, future economic growth will critically depend on IT product innovation and research.    The     Department      of     Computer      Sciences      at

GU TECH prepares students for industry from the very outset and instils in them a flair for entrepreneurship and innovation. Faculty are actively engaged with industry and conduct research on business problems as well as problems of national importance. The Bachelors in Computer Science (BSCS)  program provides strong theoretical skills and design thinking abilities, together with hands-on practical work experience through CITI (Center for Innovation, Technology and Incubation), which has been set up in close partnership with industry. The salient features of the BSCS program are as follows:

Earn as you Learn

At the very onset of the BSCS program, students get exposure to the fundamentals of Computer Science together with practical courses for learning IT tools and frameworks. GU TECH’s CITI provides students with the opportunity to become freelance IT consultants and also eventually commercialize their developed products and services.

Our collaboration with local IT companies and software houses provides practical experiences via internships during the initial years of the BSCS program. Students can work part-time during their studies, gaining valuable industry exposure.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation

The BSCS program aims at developing an entrepreneurial mindset amongst students, through coursework together with exposure to practicing entrepreneurs. The  program provides experiential and project-based learning to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems. Early in the program students will be involved in ideation, design and implementation of real world projects.

The BSCS program offers courses to develop entrepreneurship and innovation skills including modules in leadership, innovation, design thinking, management, marketing and finance. These skills are critical to facilitate keeping up with business developments. Students gain exposure to industry and IT innovations through seminars, hands-on workshops, exhibitions, showcasing events, podcasts, and industry linkage job fairs. Topics will include success stories of technology leaders, intellectual property (IP) licensing, startup strategies, and Silicon Valley cases in innovation and technology.

Research & Innovation

The Computer Science department is active in research to address problems ranging from those faced by individual businesses to those of national importance. Some of our current research areas include:

  1. Combating fake news in healthcare, climate and Geopolitics: The rise of disinformation and spread of misinformation has shaped a highly polarised digital world. AI based methods are being developed to identify and label fake content along with spread dynamic modelling.

  2. Precision Medicine:  The ability of high dimensional biological data has shaped the classical drug discovery and clinical practices in a more precise way. At GU Tech, we are working on associating crucial bio-markers to specific genes and establishing predictive modelling for better drugs towards specific genomic variations to populations and individuals.

  3. Socio-Economic Classification for Policy Making: The availability of national household data allows the development of interpretable models to comprehend high poverty areas, growth in quality of life. We believe that knowledge inferences can play a significant role in the national policy making processes.

Center for Innovation, Technology and Incubation (CITI)

CITI has been established as an innovation hub for fostering research, industrial collaborations and product commercialization. CITI provides startups with shared workspace and specialized training, in order to  support the needs of freelance IT consultants and commercialization of developed products.

CITI provides a platform for collaboration between academic institutions and the IT industry, in order to provide students the necessary tools and work environment required for a successful professional and entrepreneurial career. CITI aims at collaborating with other Incubation Centres across the country, software houses, international universities, industry, research centers, and technology hubs like Silicon Valley. Foreign collaborations will be established with France, China, USA, UK, Turkey, Qatar, and
Saudi Arabia.
